Becoming a US Citizen

The process of becoming a USA citizen is not complicated. The whole idea behind the concept is that the applicant must have at least one year of citizenship when filing for a naturalization status. If one does not have this requirement, one must file an application to become an eligible beneficiary by way of an application for adjustment of status. Once an application has been filed, the applicant must wait for the Department of Homeland Security to review and determine if the application is worthy of an adjustment of status. The waiting period is generally five to ten days.

After receiving an application, the applicant can expect to start the process by appearing before the USCIS. A certificate of eligibility will be provided by the USCIS along with an application for adjustment of status. The certificate must then be signed by the applicant in order to verify that the applicant is a qualified citizen of the United States. Along with the certificate, an immigrant visa must also be received. This process typically takes up to one month.

After completing all of these steps, the immigrant must go through the naturalization process. This process does not begin until one is a citizen of the United States. To do this, the immigrant must go through three different stages.

First, they must adjust from their original country of citizenship to that of USA. In doing so, they must follow all of the laws and requirements that apply to changing their status. This includes paying taxes and complying with any other laws that are relevant. The new citizen will also be required to obtain a social security number and obtain work authorizations. They will also have to undergo background checks.

Then, they must also complete the Naturalization ceremony. This is usually done at the port of entry into the country. Once this has been completed, then they can apply for an immigrant visa. This visa process typically takes about six months or longer depending on their case and status.

All in all, becoming a US citizen can be an exciting and thrilling experience. There are many benefits that are offered to potential citizens. However, these benefits are granted to those who follow the rules and laws regarding their transition into the United States. If you are thinking about changing your status, it is best to consult an immigration attorney to find out if your case qualifies. Not only will your attorney help you understand the process and meet all of the necessary requirements, but they will also be able to tell you if you qualify as a citizen of the United States.
