..And don’t worry, this is not some nationalist portal, club or cult of any sort. The name Being American came from nothing more than an identified need to fill the growing void that was left by contributors to pop culture, development and technology who have since taken the backseat from an American stand-point. We’re just trying to bring back that spirit of what it means to be American and what better way to do it than through a blog?
More about me
My name is Wilhelm II – I know, I know. My lineage is German, but trust me when I say that I’m an all-American American! I’m commonly and affectionately (I like to think) referred to simply as Will though. My ancestry goes back to the days of the War of Independence, with the most interesting part of that history being the fact that one of my ancestors actually married a Native American woman to set the wheels of life into motion that have little old me in existence today! So I’m as American as they come, don’t you think?
Anyway, that was a few centuries ago, a history I’m very proud of – make no mistake about that, but the past is the past and I am indeed my own person who is just trying to make his own way in this great nation and in this world.
So, I’m a 30-something year-old who despite the way I phrased that statement, is not conscious about things like my age. I like to think I’m the perfect example of someone who focuses on the issues that matter, hence the topics commonly featured on this here blog.
I think I’m really lucky to have been born in the United States of America, but more about that in a sec, because that’s essentially what the blog is all about.
I’m a typical American bloke who is chasing my own iteration of what I believe is the American Dream – I work hard, from 9-5 and on the side I’m trying by all means to create additional revenue streams so that one day I won’t have to wake up to go to an office job as a matter of survival.
About the blog
So what Being American is all about will be centered on all the opportunities we have as citizens of this great country to essentially carve out the lives we want to live. So in essence, everything and anything about being American and beyond that is going to be discussed! We’re talking here lifestyle, economics, travel, education, politics, economics – EVERYTHING under the American sun!
The blog was born out of my realization that we are indeed living deep in the Information Era, with a little bit too much of the information we share as a window into our lives and lifestyles being utterly pointless and useless. We’re effecting somewhat of a fight-back here at Being American, to make information valuable again!
I encourage you to get involved as well, which is why I refer to the platform in the plural – “us.”

A wrap-up of what you can expect here at Being American
There is no denying the fact that the typical American citizen is part of a country which has a bit more of an added responsibility globally, which speaks to that good old American exceptionalism. Granted, this exceptionalism is definitely undergoing a period of redefinition, but then that presents us with the perfect opportunity to get involved, if only through discussing the important issues that affect us as Americans and as anybody who interacts with America (and Americans) on any scale really.
So every time you pop-by, you can expect to find out all about what it means to be American in the ever-changing world we find ourselves in!
